First tip: Don't put garage door install questions in the Heating and A/C forum. General Garage Discussion forum is better place.

Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning

I just insulated my two shop doors, I used 1" Owens pink foam board. There is a lip on the top and bottom of the door panels so you have to flex it to get it to fit in. In order to get it under the side brackets I cut the insulation in the center and fit in the two pieces and pushed them together. I will post a couple of pics from my phone.

That is exactly what I am about to do to our garage door... I have been trying to figure out a good spray adhesive that i could put a silver foil over the top of it, or something else that would be easy to keep clean

Used a double layer of 3/4 thick foil covered foam board. Found it easier to work with (stuff in the door slats) then one thick 1.5" piece.

This is exactly what I did, except I put the letters facing the door, so mine is just silver looking.

Has anyone used insulation with doors that has windows? Did you guys do anything about the look of the insulation?

Anyone concerned about the new wall of flammable material you're creating? I always thought there was supposed to be a fire rated covering over any foam due to its flammability. Maybe cover the insulation with some aluminum coil stock or something similar. What do ya think?

I was going to do this on a garage door on the house but decided to replace it with an insulated one. It was old and need refreshing, anyway

I considered it. I even took a scrap chunk to the backyard to light with my propane torch to aware myself of its dangers. Seemed like it had to burn past the foil. Which required some high concentrated heat. The foam was quite blaze almost like newspaper once through the foil. I considered perhaps some thin aluminum or plastic sheet like some roofing flashing. But, haven't done anything yet do to cost and added weight to the door. I rarely play with fire in the garage or even sparks. When I do the garage door is open for ventilation anyways. Just requires caution is all. Like those oily rags and gas cans that are idle in the corner of the garage.
