I have been dragging my feet on these old doors for years. This is just a game room and hobby area. Many projects seems to happen here all times of year. Last winter was wreath making for the ffa. The garage doors are on the west side and take all the weather. They’re probably 30yr old budget doors, just light tin doors. I bought the cheap kits at Menards and installed yesterday. The R value probably isn’t great but I think it’s going to make a big difference! I used an old table saw and cut to size. I might spray foam the channels a little more.

Agreed, new weatherstrip on an old overhead door is a good idea.
Make sure the rest of the garage is insulated well, too - it doesn't look like there's any in the ceiling.

I think you will definitely see a difference. Even though the R value is probably in the single digits you have made a thermal break on the majority of the door and that alone will help.

My metal sided shop has radiant barrier only on the west wall which is R panel . You can hold your hand on it all day with the sun scorching the outside.

Insulating my door made huge difference in the garage. I also have insulation in the walls and ceiling. Stays much cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter even at -25c there is a major difference in the temperature in the garage. We don’t get many of those day so I just avoid the garage for the days like that unless it is absolutely necessary
