I am interested in insulating a 16' by 8' garage door. There have been some discusions here but not a lot of detail. I would like to use something that has a plastic or vinyl backing facing into the interior of the garage which would reflect light and also be easy to keep clean. An internet search shows a product named Dura Core HP which looks promising. However, most of these type kits (same product different name?) are quite expensive at almost $300.00 to do my door. What have some of you used? Can the regular pink or blue foam insulations sold in 4' X 8' sheets be painted? Have any of you used the Dura Core product? Thanks!

I used a Dura Core Kit or similar (looks the same as what I used) but I only paid like $45 a kit from Menards. I ended up buying 2 kits for my 16 X 7 Door and they work good, I have accidentally popped a few holes in the plastic liner with boards and stuff but that is my own fault. As far as painting the pink foam you should be able to do it with latex paint.

I thought about insulating my uninsulated garage door. There is a local manufacturing company that produces sheets of insulation and when the trim it to thickness, the end up with extra 1/8-1/4" sheets of the stuff that they give away for free. I haven't gotten around to doing it yet though. I planned on buying rolls of aluminum roof flashing and attaching it to cover the insulation.
