Garage door jamb reveal?

I am getting ready to start sheathing my garage build. I plan to do Hardie siding with Hardie trim around my garage door opening (No brick).

How do you guys do the jamb within the framed garage door opening?

Option 1)Outside edge of jamb flush with jacks

a) If so does the sheathing cover the jamb board and get nailed through the sheathing the same as the jacks?

Option 2) Outside edge of jamb set out past the jacks with a 1" sticking out past sheathing

Option 3) Outside edge of jamb even with outer edge of sheathing not nailed through the sheathing

There really is no reference on the recommended way to do this.

I just installed Hardie siding on my garage build, so am quite familiar with it's application, albeit I did not use Hardie trim, but rather custom cut cedar boards for the trim. Regardless, I'm a little confused as to what you're describing. Could you draw a diagram of what exactly you're referencing?

Option #3 is by far the most common (and sensical) approach in these parts.......

I'm a bit confused by the post too, but what I did was sheath the garage, then added casing to the doors & window jambs and capped them.
gives a reveal that looks better than the sheathing going up to the doors & windows IMO

You frame out the garage door just as any other door -- the sheathing stops at the inside edge of the rough framing. The mistake that one sees all the time with garage doors is the RO is off -- narrow -- when the jams are installed they fall too far onto the door. You want to maximize the opening.

I typically use 5/4 stock for the jams -- you can use common brick moulding for the front. Often something larger looks better with siding. Needs to be thick enough to capture the siding.

RO is using 2x s, then 3/4 trim facing the door opening. Hardi to the edge of the RO, then trim over that. I used LP SmartSide for trim. Lot easier to deal with than the Hardi stuff.
