Garage door keypad, car, and remotes will not retain programming

It started with the wall button no longer working. There was power. The keypad, car, and remotes still worked, and testing the wall button at different locations, including closer to the opener and directly to the opener itself showed the button still worked. Something in the wall? So I spliced into the wire where the wire came out from the wall near the garage door and reattached the wall button. Voila! It works again.

But I had to, for some reason, reprogram the keypad, car, and remotes. Press the learn button on the opener, light flashes, enter code and hold enter, wait for it... flashes again. It works. Later in the day it works. A bit later and it no longer works. I replaced the 9V battery and it still happens. This happens for the integrated car openers and the remotes, too. They work and then just stop working after a random bit of time passes. Always within a few hours though.

Any ideas?

I should add, I had issues like this for 6 months until it finally stopped working for anything but manual opening all together. I just replaced the whole thing since it was a craftsman opener from the 90s.

I had a similar problem and knowing that I don't have all the answers, I called the Technical Assistance line of the manufacturer.
After following their instructions and being walked through a lot of of trouble shooting procedure, they told me that they would send me a replacement board if I could install it.
In a few days the board arrived and I made the replacement.
End of the story.

It was wired backwards at the button.

I had my son take a look as I was recently out of town. Even though I traced the wires and had labeled them for which wire goes to which terminal, there must have been a splice somewhere else in the wall that didn't match where I had to install it on a new section of wiring. Just thought I'd share the solution. It was the ONE thing I was second guessing, but never tried when troubleshooting.
