I have just finished installing 1/2" plywood walls in my workshop, and since it's too cold to start priming due to no real heat in there, I turned my attention to a proposed ceiling. While looking over the situation, I noticed a wear spot on the underside of the roof truss nearest the garage door. Upon getting up on a ladder and taking a closer look, I saw problem #1. The overhead above the garage door was so close that the door was touching the truss chord as it was being raised! That does not leave any room for a ceiling.
I did some research on the net and found kits to help out with low overhead situations like mine. Remembering that I had seen a garage door company near my home, I took a ride over today and talked to the receptionist. She was very nice, to say the least. Hot too. She knew exactly the kit I had found on the net for around $20. She said she might have one and went to check. I could hear her fumbling around upstairs, and she soon appeared with a kit. Apologizing for it's dusty appearance, she told me that all the others she had were on the service truck in the field, and said she was ashamed to sell me that one, and tried to give it to me. I finally convinced her to take $5 for the kit, thanked her, and off home I went to install.
After the kit install, the door now clears the truss member by 2-1/2". Problem solved. Now I can plan my ceiling. Took a few pics to maybe help others with this situation.
