So, first of all, this is my first post here so I'd like to say hi to everyone! Alas, we meet on terms that are most sad. For you see, I am in somewhat of a predicament. I don't know if this is the right place to be asking this so if it's not can an admin please move it to the right section? I have a pad to input a code manually from the outside of my garage door to open it in case I do not have a clicker. The pad has ceased working, and I cannot find the problem. I have replaced the batteries, and tried to see if there were any connections messed up...neither were the problem. There is a sensor that usually blinks when I open the panel that does not even turn on anymore....any ideas?

I'm extremely frustrated with this because the other day I locked my keys in my care IN MY DRIVEWAY IN THE IGNITION (whoops) and had to wait two hours before triple A could save me and man did I feel like an idiot -.-;

Do you have the manual for your opener? Have you checked the circuit breaker in htr house for your garage? If it is tripped, your automatic door opener will be dead. Also is there a switch inside the garage, that you can access and press? If you do and the unit still does not open let us know. Have you pulled the release handle/cord so that the door could be operated manually? If so, were you able to open the door?

Hello and welcome.

Is the keypad hardwired to the door operator or is it wireless? If wireless, it may need to be re-programed (just like a remote). If it's hardwired, look for a broken or damaged wire leading to the operator. What brand is it?

It does seem the remote pad is dead. Don't preclude a bad new battery, or the battery's put in wrong.

Sometimes remotes (key fobs and external wireless keypads) loose the ability to communicate with the GDO. This can often happen when there's a power outage and the GDO circuit board resets. Then you can take the remote near the GDO and let the GDO learn it's there. Many of the newer GDO's have such learning modes.

What is the make/model number of the GDO and the Remote panel? Is it wired, or wireless?

Oh, and for your auto key, here's how to prevent it again.

A little insurance goes a long way... drill a little hole in the underside or back of the grille of your car. Then have a cheap key made that will unlock the door. Use a plastic tie wrap to attach the key to the grille through the hole.

If you're locked out of the car... remove the key, open your car and retrieve the set of keys.

Yay for Triple A! :beer:

Hey guys, thanks for the answers! The unit IS wireless, so as you said it just probably has to be reprogrammed. I couldn't find any of the paperwork but I'll ask my wife when she's home for the brand and all that. But if the pad is reprogrammed would the guys who did the install reprogram it for free or would I have to dish out more cash? That would seem kind of unfair especially since I didn't even know these pads COULD cause problems like this. I'll keep you guys posted!

You can re-program it yourself. The owner's manual has instructions and if you can't find the instructions look on the internet (search engine like Google). The brand and model number will be on the opener. No need to ask for your wife's help. :D

Re:
The key.

My hubcaps are pretty flat so I have duct taped a door opening key on the inside center.
It just spins so there isn't any real centrifugal force.

"That would seem kind of unfair".....ya, lots of stuff in life is "unfair". Get yourself a filing cabinet and 26 file folders....A thru Z and file those instruction sheets and manuals. One of the best things I have ever purchased.
