Garage Door Not Closing fully

I have a 9 year old garage door which has worked fine till today. But suddenly it has stopped closing fully and stops with a bang noise around 1.5 feet from the ground.
On closer look i noticed that the closing arm seems to be hitting the end of the track and thats where the door stops with a bang.Seems to me somehow the closing arm is not fully extending and so door is not closing properly. I have tried restting the limits but i guess since the arms are hitting the end of track much before the door is close to the garage so it didnt help. Any help as to what could have happened to make the arm hit the end of track .

Looks like the bracket that holds the rail popped off the wall.

That limit is wayyy too extended. It should be stopping a good 6-8" (or more) from the end of the track.

That two piece arm is on back asswards to begin with. Also the bracket on the door is too high.
Who installed this? Did it ever work correctly?

and allowed the track to push up, and the bracket to flip over on itself. I take back part of my previous post above
Yeah, when I first looked at it I was like how the heck is the trolley so jacked up. I had to zoom in to figure it out. As right as I am about that, I hope I'm wrong about the OP being a one and done.

I see what you mean. let me check if the bracket came off and flipped over , I thought that the arm looked weird as there was no way for me to even pull the emergency handle.

I checked and i still see the bracket bolted on the door and also the trolley seems to be secured too.The other thing i notice is the sag in the chain. And yes this worked fine for almost 8-9 year before stopping today pc1.jpg

The arm cam'd over between your door and the track. Disassemble, reassemble correctly (see manufacturer's website for instructions) and it might work just fine.

I'd look up the instructions on that opener and see where the door is supposed to be mounted: Most of the ones I've played with over the years want the door-side bracket to be about 6" below the top of the door (yours is at the very top).

Is there a torsion spring on the garage door? (I see the bar for it, but I don't see a spring)

Otherwise, It also looks like your chain tension is maxed out... You might need to remove a link, or just replace the whole opener.

Is this a DIY install? Looking at the support bracket on the right side of the opener, I'd wonder why they didn't flip the bracket over to mount nicely to the opener itself?

This door seems to be all sorts of jacked up...

-missing springs
-bracket in wrong sport on door
-bracket attached to wall?
-arm on backwards

@prav27 did someone work on/around the door, perhaps painting?

Hope we aren't being trolled...

We did not have anyone worked on this door from the time we bought the house and yes it worked fine till today.
I will have to again check and see if something made the whole setup turn upside down in the last day or 2.
To avoid the arm hitting the end , I now reprogrammed the limit to make sure that the arm stops just before the end. This way atleast now it does not stops with a bang sound.

Suppose we'll know if/when they follow up...

Very hard to fathom how that opener worked for 9 years on a door with no torsion spring. But if it did, that's quite a testimony to that opener!

That whole setup looks wrong. It looks like the opener arm is attached to the top rail of the door ????? Here is the way it is supposed to look:
This this this is the correct way, end thread.

It appears maybe the travel control in the close direction failed, and as a result of this failure, the bracket broke off, and as a result of the bracket breaking off, the trolley went to the end. To me, when this hit, it should have reversed automatically (safety feature). The opener itself may be no longer capable of working correctly.

If I'm wrong, then you can redo it as shown above and significant travel adjustments are going to be needed. The opener is actually pretty smart and before you turn it on, you need to treat it with some respect. You set where it stops in both directions. You set how much force it's allow to use before safety overrides occur. The user is responsible for this. there's no law that says the opener can't damage the door. Be respectful of it. Err on the side of the door not lowering far enough and then sneak up on it.
