Garage door open size?

Recommendations for garage door opener and what size motor do I need? the door is insulated 12' wide and 8' tall.

brand preference too. belt or chain?

This is a pole barn detached garage.

Is this for a house garage or a detached? If an attached garage, and there is a bedroom above the garage, I'd recommend a belt drive as they are more quiet.

I'm sure you can find out what size you need by googling.

My vote is Lift master (or chamberlain from home store) openers. Belt drive with battery backup.

its a detached garage. and yes but I could google it but by asking here I getting real world answer that I trust more. But thank you for the advise, I do appreciate it.

With a properly installed and balanced door a 1/2 hp is more than enough. All the opener does is remove the manual part of opening the door. If it's easy for you to raise and lower it doesn't take much hp.

I install for chain drive mostly liftmaster 8365. We just don't have problems with them. For belt 8550.

In a detached garage and many attached ones the 8365 works very well.

Thank you I was getting mixed answers from 1/2hp and couple said don't go less than 3/4hp. yes the door raises will verylittle effort. I think chain is the way I want to go too.
