Garage Door Opener add on

I am looking to add a remote to my garage door opener. I know. I should probably just buy a new opener but this one works and I kinda like it. Before you say it I know the safety features would be great but this one is already there and I'm looking for a simple solution.

Little back story. We live in the historic district in Salt Lake and the home has a placard out from telling the history of them. When the carriage house was converted to a garage and the horse stalls removed they installed this opener. I think it is neat and would like to keep it.

Looks like the previous owner had a remote connected to it too. We however bought it as-is from an estate and did not receive the remotes. Looks like Genie makes one but it is $60. I'd prefer a less expensive option but will part with the money if needed. Has anyone used it or have a less expensive recommendation?

Out of curiosity I typed the patent number into the Google and came up with this. It has nothing to do with getting the opener to operate from a remote but I found it interesting.

IMHO, If you just bite the bullet and buy a remote from a garage door service company you will come out ahead.

The remote they install will work right the first time; or you pay nothing and they take it back to the store.

The alternative is you spend your time and your money; then you hope that it will work.

That is interesting. I've used the tilted bearing drive systems on industrial applications. Teh shaft has to be pretty close tolerance and the bearings the right shape and angle. Looks like the worked around the tolerance of the shaft by spring loading the bearing carriage. Would have never thought that would be used on a garage door opener. I'd bet that is pretty rare.

Yep, trivial to add a controller across the doorbell wires, if it's "usual" same button up and down. That used to be how they made any opener work with a device that was associated with some other product, like say built in a car or nowadays, a phone.

That's a cool opener. I wonder what material those rollers are made of. I expected it was acme screw drive before seeing the patent.

This below is interesting and cheaper but I was not able to see if it has a set of contacts for 24V. It must have, but I thought it was a bit odd they made it appear that it works only by magic.
