Garage Door Opener - Adding 3 Button Wall Control

Hi, I have a 3 door car garage and attached image shows current wall control panel. It's a simple push button setup made with hole punched through blank plate.

Buttons are outdated, wobbly and don't always work so I want to replace this setup. Are there any ready made 3 button panels available in the market? I searched a lot and couldn't find anything.

Should I able replace with momentary buttons? I prefer to get something with "click" tactile instead of "deep push" mechanics. Can you please recommend me any compatible buttons? I am open to idea of doubling the junction box size so I can have horizontal layout and LED lit buttons.

very easy to do, just get a blank wall plate drill holes and choose any momentary switch that you like.

i dont know of any pre-made solutions.

it does look like you have additional unused wires, those can be use to light up the buttons

If i were to do it i would get a stainless wall plate and use 3 of these

I do have a hole saw and a spare steel plate to work it out but I wasn't sure about the wiring.

I don't have any idea how the wire behind the wall gets connected to each of the three garage door openers. There's only one wire coming in and 6 out of 8 are used up by each of the buttons.

Looking at your recommended button, how do I translate the wire polarity to my 8 wires? Is there a way to tell -/+ on my wires? My current buttons don't have any such labels.

You have 3 switches, 6 wires. just connect those pairs that currently go to your switch to the new ones on the NO terminals, it doesnt matter what one connects to each NO terminal as you are just completing the circuit.

IF you use those switches i linked, wire all the red together and all the black together and connet them to a 12v source to power the LEDs on.

This is the door opener we have at the fire station, and have seen them at garages, etc. They don't "click" but they do have the 3 buttobs...

Looks like three doorbell buttons to me. Go to Home Depot and buy three new ones and swap them out. Why make it more complicated than it needs to be ????

They ARE doorbell buttons.

I agree that hey are door bell buttons. if you use new ones that are "lit" , you will probably need to snip the light so it doesn't interfere with the door opener operation

The open and close buttons are typically normally open switches, and doorbell switches will work for those. But the stop button is normally closed. Need a different momentary contact switch for that one.

Original post mentions 3 doors so 3 NO switches would be right.

When we added a 2nd opener, that was not prewired when the house was built, the installer had to put the master button down by the garage door, rather than at the door to the laundry room which is where you enter the garage. For that location, I just bought an additional "clicker" like you use in your car, and velcroed it to the wall by the entrance door.

seems like newer modern openers DO NOT like the momentary switches and use variable voltage(MAYBE??) to distinguish different functions.

As you are not upgrading/ replacing the openers this is easy to replace these switches

However if you upgrade the openers some day they would likely need to be wired to individual controls (chamberlian/ lift master for sure)

mostly adding this info for peeps that are not OP so they dont think they can swap that ugly plastic wall mount for a sleak new shiny lighted plate switch deal!!

That's what I did, instead of hard-wire, I used a carabiner and a loop bracket to permanently-mount it (the extra car remote) at the door from the house to the garage. So-easy. I also like the Liftmaster wireless light which is programmable to illuminate when either of two garage doors are opened. I have one by the garage doors, and a second one at the door from the garage to the house.

Everything turned out well, except I cut my finger deep while drilling those 3 holes. I didn't had the wall plate secured so it spun out :-(

It's been 3 weeks and slow recovery but luckily no stitches required. Just a good friendly reminder about securing your items to avoid such accidents.
