I'm looking to replace my 40 year old craftsman garage door opener, and I'm curious to see your thoughts on the new header bracket location.
Right now, when my sectional wood door reaches the top of its travel, there is about 1mm of space between the door and the T rail. It looks like it might have actually rubbed the t-rail a long time ago, as there is a small indentation at the top of the door in the shape of the t-rail, that or they sanded/trimmed that area a tiny bit.
So it looks like I'll have to raise things up about 2" according to chamberlain, or 2.5" according to genie. I haven't bought a new opener yet, so I don't have the new header bracket yet. It looks like that'll put me right on top of the electrical wiring, or close to it, and there are no 2x6 boards behind the plywood towards the top of this setup. The plywood piece in front is maybe 8" or 9" high, and the top lag screw would just go through plywood.
I'm not comfortable messing with electrical wiring, but I've considered moving the junction box, but I'd like to avoid that.
Edit: It's hard to see, but with the current setup, the header bracket is basically flush with the door. If I remove those 3 2x6 boards that are stacked on top of each other, I think the header is about 5-6" behind the door.
