I got a "new", still in the box craftsman garage door opener(1/2 hp chain drive) for free. I got it out the box and laid out on a table was reading the instuctions and discover that it comes with enough stuff for a 7' door, I have a 9' door, looked up the part to make it work for me, called sears parts up and the "rail extention kit" is no longer available. Anybody else have this problem??? What did you do??? Any help would begreat, Thanks

If the prefix in the model number is 139 it was made by Chamberlain

You can call them and ask them

I once used one on a 10' door by mounting the opener far enough back for the door to open all the way and hanging the wall end somehow that I do not recall right now. To open the full 10' I had to pull the pin and manually lift it the rest. If you want it to open the full 9 you may have to fab the parts and work with the limiters depending on how they work.

What does the rail look like, a T section or a Box section. I might have some spare T and some spare Box section rails. Also, is it chain or belt or what? You would have to 'extend' the chain or belt to make it work. The extension kit is about 3 ft (to handle a 10' door), been there and done that.

Have a metal shop fab up a section of railing to match the dimensions of one of the pieces you have, add an extra 30" to ensure you have lots of length and then find the master link on the chain( same chain typically as a bicycle shop would carry), split it add two feet to it and you'll be all set, nothing to hard about it. The rest will be used as it is coming out of the box.

What Chris said.
Take in the existing box pices and tell them you need one more.

Before you rush in and fab something, do this... Shoot a picture of the box, with a ruler to show size and post it. (Also post the dimensions too...) I have at least two pieces sitting around here that I know of that may work for you.

I just put a craftsman opener on a 10' door. I used an extension kit #09251884010

I also have a six year old craftsman unit on another door and the rail looks like it would fit no problem.

I'm certain sears would take it back if it didnt fit.

after doing some more looking, sears still sells this kit, it just has a different number and funny part is that it is in stock at my local sears, you would think that the sears parts people would know this, for $50 i guess it makes for a cheap g-door opener, thanks guys for the help, it nice to know that there a still a few of us "good ol' boys" left

I also have a now discontinued craftsman 1/2hp I picked up from sears outlet for 40$. Dont remember the model number off the top of mythe head, but it has a purple learn button. I was having problems locating a craftsman extension kit, so i bought an extension kit for a liftmaster at lowes. Same company, same parts, just different names on the sticker. Same for the keypad, which sears no longer sells.

no i didn't look a eby, not sure why not.

the second link is exactly what i need, but heck that 1/2 price of a complete

new one

I thought that was what you had... Since you now know it is at the local Sears store (bottom shelf, hidden right? :bounce:) you are set, but if you need I suspect the spare pieces I have might help you. I recommend the kit, it has a few other bits and pieces that will make the job much easier, including the new, longer chain.

If you have any garage door companies around you, check with them to see if they have any openers. Most of those companies install openers as a secondary part of their business.

If your local store has it, try to buy it online with store pick up. Before you complete the transaction, try to find a coupon code and save a few more bucks.
