Garage door opener issue

When we built our house 3yrs ago, I cheaped out and bought 2 Genie garage door openers (H2000C 1/2hp Intellicode chain glide). Recently, my door will only open sporadically, other times it will only open a couple inches.

Before I started buying parts, I checked for broken wires at all connections and verified the safety sensors were aligned. Then switched out the wall switch and safety sensors with my wife's door... nothing :headscrat

Any thoughts before I scape the unit?

Do you have the same problem with the remotes as you do with the wall button in the garage? Is the problem only going up or up and down? If it is an up only problem it is not the sensors. Have you adjusted the sensitivity yet?

Give Genie factory customer service a call, 800 354 3643. They have wakked me through problems at several garages. They can sell you a new part cheaper than you can buy an opener.

This unit has been in use for 3yrs with no issues or adjustments. It happens with the remotes and wall button. When I get it up, the same issue happens getting it down. If I hold the button in, it will shut. I will call the service line.

This certainly would not apply to problems opening the door, but I did learn recently that the safety sensors should be installed so that they are facing in opposite directions when you have side-by-side doors. Mine had been installed with the red sensors on both doors facing the same way, and it led to intermittent problems closing one of the doors. A call to their customer service line got me straightened away.

I had this problem with a spider web over one of the sensors. Cleared it and now it is fine.
