Hello GJ Nation,
I need some assistance from the resident garage door specialists/gurus.
I have searched online for this information, to no avail. Basically I have two different keypad controllers which I want to use to control three different garage door openers.
I have a Craftsman 53990 opener (315 mhz, purple learn button) with a 53754 315 mhz keypad controller, and two LiftMaster 8500 openers with a single 877MAX keypad controller between them.
I am aware that the 53754 315mhz keypad can only be used to operate the Craftsman 315mhz opener. The 877MAX keypad is compatible with both 315 and 390mhz.
1) How many codes can I program into each keypad? The 53754 only seems to support 1 permanent (and 1 temporary) 4-digit 315mhz code at a time, but I can't find any documentation to confirm that. However, it would appear I can program up to 24 codes into the 877MAX...does this mean I can program multiple codes for all of my openers? And do all of the codes in the 877MAX have to be for the same platform or can you have active programming for 315mhz and 390mhz at the same time?
2) Can I program both the 877MAX and the 53754 to control the same opener (the Craftsman) using the same code? Say I like the code 1234, can I program both keypads to open the same door with the same code?
Reason I am asking, is the two keypad controllers do not want to seem to play nice. At one time I had the same code successfully programmed into both keypads to control the Craftsman 315mhz opener from different locations. But as of two weeks ago, the 53754 stopped working. Now, if I try to program 1234 into one keypad, it seems to cancel out the other keypad's 1234 code.
Item of possible interest: We recently had a power spike and subsequent outage - could that have messed with the Craftsman opener's 'brain'? Is it possible that it needs to be wiped and reprogrammed?
Apologies for the complexities of this situation. I'm perplexed because at one point everything was working correctly. As part of my troubleshooting I am just trying to determine the limitations of these devices.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!
