Garage Door Opener Light Problem

I have a Craftsmen garage door opener with dual light on it. Both the lights don't work. Yes, I changed the bulbs, it has a motion sensor on the wired button and when you click on the light button there is a "clicking" sound at the unit itself. The door opens and closes without a problem, both from the wired remote and the wireless remote. Has anyone had this or a similar problem.

Yes, if you have a voltmeter, measure the voltage at the contacts for the bulb. Sometimes the contacts simply don't touch the bulb contacts, other times the relay needs to be replaced. I've also seen worn and slightly melted wires leading to the bulb socket.

Reviving an old one here...

I've got a pair of craftsman belt drive openers... The red ones with the motion activated OH lights (assuming the same ones as the OP). Two bulbs on each opener. Something is up with the lights. 3 of the 4 lamps don't work (all of the time). The bulbs are good. They're rough service incandescents. If a wiggle/tighten the bulbs they work... But not regularly. Example: just got all 4 bulbs working, closed the door on my way out, opened it again on my way back, and one of the two bulbs on that particular opener isn't working again. Help.

Possible socket/wire issue. Possible corroded metal in the socket. Possible center connection tab in the socket just needs to be pulled up. (without power active.) Possible melted wires. (easy fix.) Possible loose connection to the circuit board. (requires removing the unit and taking it apart to check. Removing the unit is easy once you secure the door. Lastly, don't assume the bulbs are good. Put them in a small lamp and shake it a bit or tap the bulb. Occasionally, you may find an intermittent bulb. Very very rare, but does happen.

***Issue fixed, revived and saved here for posterity***

I fixed this over the weekend... my two openers and one of the same ones at my parent's house. The contacts inside the lamp socket weren't making good contact. Pop them out (clip is on the high-side), grab a pick and carefully (if the power is on like mine was) bend both tabs out to make better contact with the bulb.

Why it took me over a year to get pissed off enough to climb up there is beyond me.
