Garage door opener mounting location

Dumb question maybe...does a garage door opener need to be mounted centered on the garage door? The reason I ask, is I'm going to be wiring up a section of T8 bulbs in the shop. I was going to run a row centered down the ceiling. My 16'x8' overhead door is also centered on the shop. I do not have an opener yet, in the future at some point. I didn't know if the opener and lights are going to cause interference or not. I really would like to keep the lights centered on the shop ceiling as I plan to eventually run 3 rows of lights, but am starting with the center bank for now...

I've never owned a place with an opener, so not even sure how they mount to the ceiling...

Thanks!

If you have a torsion spring assy. You can mount the opener anywhere you want! Instead of mounting to center style just move to next style over, right or left. I would favor the side closest to your ceiling outlet.
