I know the other thread got locked - apparently nobody though to research codes and just decided to throw mud. The OP on that thread resides in CO.

My research shows that CSPC 16 CFR 1211.2(c) is part of the NEC and for sure in NEC 2014. The point being that CO has adopted NEC 2014 as state law, therefore disconnecting door safety devices or otherwise rendering them non-code compliant is technically illegal.

And anywhere, if you ever sell, a good home inspector will notice it.

Automatic weapons are illegal in our country, for the most part, yet you can find videos on youtube on converting a gun to auto. I don't see the harm in putting the info out there, just explain the possible hazards and let someone make their own choices. It isn't any one person/forums responsibility to protect the population from themselves.

Yes. What kind of discussion are you trying to invoke?

Let's argue about exceeding speed limits next.

I disabled the automatic cut-off switch on my lawnmower seat. Am I going to jail?

No, but you may live to regret it. Before they had safety switches a fellow I know had his son hit a sprinkler head (the old gavanized ones) with his riding mower , through him off and severed his leg above the knee. He was either 13 or 14 at the time

why would you want to defeat a feature that is put there to protect you???? -

If I had a youngster mowing my lawn I may not remove it but to me it's an annoyance to restart the mower every time I have to get off to move something out of the way.

Some things are inherently dangerous even with gubmint required "safety" switches. Do you think we are being lulled into a false sense of safety with these things? I don't know if I would let my 13 -14 yr old mow the lawn just because there is a safety switch. To me it depends on how well I know the kid can make good and safe decisions before I let him operate any equipment.

This thread is going to get locked quickly.

My parents mower only shuts off if the blades are engaged and you stand up. And it takes so long for the blades to stop turning, if you fell off you would still be in trouble.

And about all this door crushing... Why do you all have the force turned up high enough to crush someone? That needs to be adjusted whether you have sensors or not... If someone gets crushed and wasn't in just the right spot to trip the sensors I suppose you would be held liable for not adjusting the force settings?
