I am looking for a replacement wall switch for my garage door opener (it's a '90s Genie). I would prefer a lighted switch. I checked HD & Lowes they both have the same Genie wall switch that isn't lighted and not much to look at either. I don't need anything fancy but something that looks good or cool would be nice.

Anyone have any ideas?

OBTW It's been a while since I've posted here, I was actually too busy enjoying my newly remodeled garage...until last September. While away on vacation we had a hot water line in the bathroom above the garage burst. Long story short the garage and some other rooms of the house suffered significant damage. I'm in the process of having everything repaired and getting close to completion.
It's been a long, stressful time but there is an end in sight.

I use lighted doorbell switches for the simple openers. Sometimes the light function is incompatible tho.

If your model wasn't designed for a lighted switch, you're SOL. NuTone and other lighted doorbell buttons won't work!

No idea what model opener you have. I'd suggest you call your local genie co. With model and MFG. date, see what they've got. It's been my experience box stores don't know **** about openers! Good luck.

I went through this with my Genie (90's) when the "doorbell" switch in the kitchen stopped working. I went and got a generic and it wouldn't work. Had to get the Genie switch as it was the only one that would work. Call Genie.

While away on extended vacations, etc., we have a main water shut off for the whole house as well as outside hose bibs. The vandals here think it's great fun to leave your water running in your absence, especially the ol' hose in the door mail slot trick.

Yeah, funny thing, I've always done the same when we have been gone for a week or more. But this time we were gone for 5 days so I did not shut off the water.... In the past we always had a dog/house sitter come to stay when we were gone for vacations but the dog past away last year and the house sitter's situation changed, so it wasn't an option this time.

Thanks all for the replies. Being that this is a pretty old opener I'm going to give the doorbell button a try and if it doesn't work I'll just go with the generic looking Genie button.

Cheers,

JAG

We had a washing machine hose fail many years ago. It is always a mess when there is a large water discharge. We have a $10 water alarm in the basement now, it is only an alarm similar to a smoke detector sound. They do make some that shut the water off at the main if water is detected. I keep thinking about getting one.

So, I tried a real nice looking doorbell button and as someone mentioned above...no go. So I called a local garage door co. and asked what I might try. They told me that the Genie button sold by HD & Lowes etc. is pretty much the only thing available. Oh well, it was worth a try I guess...
