Garage door opener

A couple of years ago a buddy and I put in a Sears garage door opener in my 2 car garage. We got it all done except the sensors because I had two nonop cars and junk preventing getting around. I have my instructions but they are water damaged.
So we installed a jumper so the door will close....My question is do I just need to run the sensor wires to their spots on the opener and mount the sensors? Any help appreciated and I need to get this soon b/c our house is officially on the market!!

Yes, it is a safety issue and it will - SHOULD - be flagged on any inspection. Install the sensors. There's no tricks to the deal, they are all pretty much the same. When I put in our new Craftsman opener last year I just hooked up the existing 10 year old sensors and existing wires and they worked fine.

Thanks Chris. Our old Genie machine didn't have sensors. BTW your shop gives me ideas for my future place.

You can always mount the sensors above the opener pointed at each other a few inches apart to get around this. However, since you are selling the house those sensors will have to be 4-6 inches off the floor on each side of the door and operational. A good inspector will definitely look for this.

This is obviously to prevent a child or pet from getting crushed under the door. Any opener made after 1993 is required to have these sensors by government law...

My Genie sensors are made in such a way that you cannot even jumper their connection out. The "communicate" with the opener.

Yes, if you're selling the house, you need to install them. Maybe you can call Sears with your model number, and get a replacement set of instructions emailed/faxed.

Must have been an older Sears because I thought they all had this feature; no jumpers.
