In the process of buying a new (to me) home. Home inspection was yesterday and I tagged along to check things out for my self.
One of the items that came up was the garage door opener. Liftmaster, probably from 1996. When you press the button on the wall, the opener clicks twice, but doesnt do anything else. This is whether the door is opened or closed.
Any ideas of what could be wrong? I checked both sensors and they were both showing green lights. I wasn't sure what else to check.

Thanks for any help.

does everything move smoothly? is the chain/trolley free of obstructions? are the limit switches in the correct spots?

Dunno, 2 flashes on the newer units is a short/reversed photoeye. Got lights at the eyes?

Being this is an older unit and sensors are green, sounds to me like the innerslide is jambed against the stop bolt in the rail. odie, The innerslde moves along the rail attached to the chain, check to see if that is hitting the bolt at the motor end of your operator..If so that's your problem it jumped the up limit, hence the gear and sprocket assy.
