Are these things really $30 a pop for the remotes?

Our house didn't come with the remotes and I've procrastinated long enough only to find out it's gonna cost me $90 to outfit all three cars!

Need the three buttons...

Yup $30 each. If your opener is old it may be better to replace it. U can get 2 remotes and a wireless keypad in some cases.

If it's a Craftsman or a Chamberlain (same thing), there are a LOT of openers that will work. Look at the colour of your learn button, then research what will work. Hit up junkyards, I always find them there.

Are any of your cars equipped with HomeLink (built-in garage door opener buttons)? HomeLink can learn the codes for most common openers, including rolling code. Homelink is usually only offered on the high end models, but sometimes you can add it by just swapping sun-visors or a parts in the upper console from the junkyard, since that is usually where the buttons are.

My Mustang GT convertible did not have it built in, but I added a Gentex rear view mirror that had temp, compass and Homelink. It worked better for me because the standard clip-on remotes had a problem with falling off the visor when I had the top down.

I would be more concerned about the whereabouts of the missing remotes...make sure you delete any existing programming from your opener, just in case.
