Garage door opener?

I bought a old but unused Raynor Flitestar garage door opener at an auction. I installed it today and have a couple questions. I only have the wall mounted push button to open and close it as this unit does not come with a radio receiver. The opener only goes up or down about 2'. I tried adjusting it but the adjustments don't make a difference. The other thing is I don't have the correct sensors for it. I am using an old pair I had laying around and don't know for sure that they are good. When hooked up the one with the green light is lit, the one with the red is not. I put them eye to eye and the opener still only goes about 2'. Should the red one be lit when the eyes are not lined up? Thanks

Each brand of opener has a specific safety beam. Oversimplified, they work on a proper resistance between the eyes. Universal safety sensors have multiple wires for hooking to different brands of openers. You need the correct set or a universal. Take the cover off and check how the travel limits work. They may have been turned past normal range.

Thanks Hot Rod, I do actually have the correct sensors but they are 45 miles away. I will be there in the next couple of days and get them.

Does it go the full stroke if you hold down the wall button? Typically that bypasses the sensors.

The Hormann garage door opener of mine did this when I left the door open while shoveling snow the other day. I couldn't get the opener to travel more than a couple of inches in either direction with the wall switch, remote, or button at the unit. Owner's manual was no help on this. I wound up unplugging it, giving it about 20 seconds and plugged it back in. Problem solved. Some kind of electrical lockout in my case.

Thanks, I will give it a try next time I get out there.

I got some time today so I looked at the opener again. Here is a pic of the limit switches. Remember, this is a unused opener but old. I pulled the cover off and the first thing I found was the limit switches were wired backwards. That explains why my adjustments were screwy. I rewired them and now the down works properly but still only have about 2' of movement. On the enclosed pic you can see the down adjuster is set all the way closed and the up is set all the way open. But look at the switches, the down is engaged and the up is just about to engage? I believe it is the wrong micro switch. If I could flip it, it would be about right. I can not do that because it slides on to two pins. Any ideas?

Is there any way the switches can be swapped, so there was more travel? I have had new openers out of the box with a short travel range and on rare occasions the adjuster was off the threaded rod but always easy enough to sort out. Maybe a couple of more pictures inside of the limit switch area would help.

Got it! This opener does not come with a track so I adapted my old track to it. Turns out the carriage was on the wrong side of the rail. Once I took it down and reversed it it works! I did have to put the switch wires back to their original spots. Thanks for the help.
