I was able to find a nice metal 9 x 7 overhead door a friend needed for his storage garage. He now has a wooden door and wanted to replace it. His current door has extension springs and the door I found also had extension springs and also the track was for a low overhead installation. I was wondering if I could install this door using his old tracks which were standard ones and not low overhead. For some reason I was thinking the top rollers or brackets from a low overhead door might be different and would not work in a standard track installation.

The door I bought is a Clopay and the low overhead kit had the EZ tensioning kit on the track. Sort of hope I didn’t have to switch the track over unless like I say the brackets at the top of the newer door are different being it was with a low overhead installation kit. Tks

I'd just replace the track also, you'll have less issues down the road, and the install may be easier. Operation of the door on a new track probably will be smoother.

Exactly. Yes to horizontal tracks the one of which only carries the top rollers of the top section. For some different reasons I’d really like to use the older track if it’s going to work with my door that originally was using low overhead hardware

As long as the doors are the same thickness, you should be able to reuse your existing tracks without taking them down. As stated, you will need new top/bottom fixtures, but those are easy to come by. It gets more complicated if your new door is a different thickness than your old door.
