Garage Door Question

Hi everyone,

First time getting new garage doors and I already messed up. I bought tracks that require a foot of headroom. I was told by my contractor to get low clearance tracks for the door. I called Menards and they said I have to let them know exactly how much room I've got so they can get a low clearnace converter kit for it. Where exactly do I measure from? I'm assuming from ceiling to the very top of the door. Am I wrong? Please someone let me know where I need to measure from.

Thanks,
Myst

How much headroom do you have from the top of the opening to the top of the ceiling?

Wouldn't it be to the first obstruction? he could have a beam 15" back at the and sticking down 8". May not totally play into the headroom at the header. At least the way I was trained, you need to measure up from the header/ opening and then the nearest lowest obstruction. You may have 20" at the header, but 10" maybe three feet back.
