Got 3 Clopay 8x7 doors for the new building but they came with extension springs (not a fan of these springs). I want to change to an overhead torsion spring setup and go with a jack shaft opener on 2 of them. The problem is the spring kit that they sell is a 1.5" 3 piece bar and the jack shaft openers are 1". Would changing to a 1 piece 1" bar be possible or not work at all? Anyone have any suggestions if not possible to do this? TIA

I have more questions than answers.

I don't know who's kit you are referring to that has a 3 piece 1.5" spring shaft, you will have a hard time finding springs down the road with the correct cones that doesn't use a commercial sized spring. 1" spring shaft is the industry standard for residential and most commercial.

How are they coupling the 3 pieces????

Go to a local garage door dealer and get the correct parts.

Sorry it's the Clopay EZ-Set torsion spring conversion kit. It's 2 equal length poles with a coupler in the middle holding them together.

Without seeing the kit, I feel sure it would not work at all (per your original question). Just don't buy it if you want a jackshaft opener. Buy from somebody else that's got something compatible.

I talked to the people at Garage Door Nation and will be going with their kit and spring on 2 doors for now. Just need a tube for a torsion bar that I can get local. Plan to do the other door if we start using it more often.
