Trying to do some research on doors, the ones we have in our house now are single pane glass, and the bottoms are starting to fall apart, and obviously i want to keep the garage warm due to it being under our bedrooms and not let any cold air up there. They are overhead door brand units. I have kind of looked around but nothing set in stone yet.

obviously i want good quality, and insulated for obvious reasons. I also dont know what i want to run for windows, if any at all. i live in a very quiet area with no problems or issues. I have 2 windows on the side of my garage that i have blinds on, i just dont want anyone peeking in and seeing what is in the garage, my tools, my car engines anything. but i do want the option of having some light to come in when i am in the garage to so i am thinking of that also.

Any thoughts or reviews would be great.

Thanks

My current house has insulated Wayne Dalton doors and they are pure garbage, steer clear of them.

I was setting the downforce on the openers, I told her to hold her arms out and just offer resistance to the doors. The tops of the doors actually bent and cracked, and its not like she is some huge brute, she even said that she wasn't really putting any pressure out. I do like that they have windows that are higher up so you can't look in easily.

I don't know the brand of doors I had installed on my previous house, but they were fantastic. Aluminum on both sides, a row of windows but I tinted them fairly dark.

On our higher end garage builds i specifically have Overhead Door company come in and install their product, i've always been very happy as have our clients with their doors. they're built very well, durable skin, and they warranty their work, so i'd have no qualms about calling them up and seeing what they have to offer, and if you want glass, they do have insulated glass options as well, but definately worth giving them a call.

Stay away from Wayne dalton and Ideal doors, they're a much cheaper built door and even at the top teir they're lacking strength imo.

Amarr makes a door called the olympus that has a really high R value and steel on both sides. Definitely worth the money for what you get.

Ain't this the truth. My PO installed a WD door and even worse one of their crappy openers!:shocking::shocking::shocking::shocking: My door runs strictly on 2 6vt batteries. When they die, your door won't move. It's the stupidest design I've ever seen.

I went with Raynor on a 20' X 7" steel door with two windows in the top panel. The springs and all rails are powder coated. The door has an R13 rating. It was in stalled for $1,200. It has worked faultlessly for three years now.

I've used the cheaper doors for the last 30 years with no problems. Just follow their instructions completely. Most cheap doors do not come with the necessary strut to connect a door opener to. Without the strut, the door will buckle under the load. With the struts installed properly, you should get many years of good use from the door, no matter what you paid for it. Go with the insulated doors because they cost so little more than the non-insulated doors, and they make your life much better.
