IMHO, It is wonderful when you can get good help on a project from SOWMBO. Obviously you must have done something right, sometime.

That center hose is a great idea. I don’t have that but I had the garage door company come out because my gasket on one door had collapsed a bit and was not sealing properly (new house/warranty). He inserted a long piece of flat rubber about 3 or 4 inches wide that he rolled up like rolling up a magazine or newspaper small enough to slide in from the end and that worked great. I opted for that trick over replacing the the whole thing because they would have replaced the original with a similar one that could have failed again. I am not sure how easy it would be to do on a very wide door or if a repair was for the middle of gasket.

I had mice chewing the corners of my doors. I was replacing the bottom seal yearly in the fall to keep the creatures out. One of our members sells a product called Tsunami Seal. In the three years since I installed it, I haven't had to replace my bottom seal. Word of advise regarding the install. When you cut the seal, leave it as long as possible as it will shrink some in all dimensions and on a wide door a little bit adds up!

That looks to be rather solid.
Do you know how it deals with being on an sloping surface sealing against the door?

I replaced mine a few years ago and never liked how easily the seal deformed.

I really like the idea behind the solid rubber tube inside the seal, but my doors aren't very heavy and idk if they would deform the rubber enough to do any good.

Thinking something like this might be the ticket for lighter doors. Still has an insert to help hold it's shape, but hollow to allow for a little more pressure to be applied to the ground.

I just installed Xcluder seals on our doors, as critters are a problem here. They have this steel wool stuff inside that is tough to chew through, and helps the seal hold its shape.

I suppose if you have a unlevel floor under the door it would be great. My doors are pretty level where the doors sit so the bottom seals have no issue. Even on my door where the baby groundhog chewed up the seal, it still seals up nicely.

I would think you might need to adjust the door opener settings with the solid rubber tube in the bottom gasket.

I have that. My garage threshold is higher in the middle, so in order to get anythingto seal well at the outside edges I run the closing force relatively high. The seal does get a little "flattened" over time, but it's better than having the mice just walk in under the door like thye used to.

I was gonna ask a similar question because I just installed new seals but they seem to not hold a shape that’ll seal. I was thinking of using either a roll of foam gap sealer or a rubber hose down the inner cavity to help give it shape.

I slid some backer rod into mine. Keep in mind you need to glue one end, or it gradually slides out.

I was looking at one kit earlier in the year and it looked like all it was is foam backer rod that you shove in the existing one. Did it work well?

Yes. I used to get a bit of snow blowing under the seal before I put the backer rod in. Now only a tiny bit sneaks by the ends if it's really windy.

I'll put that on my list of thing to pick up today. I'd actually forgotten about it until I saw this thread.

I just shoved a 1" backer rod in and a glob of weatherstrip adhesive in the end to hold it. Hopefully it works.
