Garage Door Rubbing On Track?

Hey everyone,

I notice that when I open my garage door, the door itself rubs against the metal track/rail on the one side of the door. There appears to be more of a gap on one side versus the other.

Am I able to adjust the track somehow?

I've had the door in for over a year and just noticed it rub now a bit on its way up. It was installed by a company over a year ago.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, it is a standard four piece sectional door. That's what I did when I saw it do it, but it got me to thinking what caused it to get that way, and will it do it again.

What do you mean by "stem"?

Had that problem with my previous old door. Solution was to measure the off set needed, then cut some spacers (pipe) to slide over the roller's shaft to keep the door away from the track.

That side of the track probably needs to be raised. My old door and tracks were a mess, so I did it the easy way. Door has been replaced.

It could be poor lubrication on one side relative to the other- it could be that gunk from the outside world has gotten into the lubrication and gummed it up. It could be that the track in the center that pulls the door isn't centered perfectly, or it could be that the arm that mounts the track to the door isn't perfectly centered on the door. Or the door could have uneven weight side to side due to less than precise manufacturing tolerances, and the weight is causing it.

There are lots of reasons why the door could be slightly askew. In my case, my concrete is cracked and slightly heaved, so the door doesn't close flat, and starts out slightly crooked when it starts opening, and just stays that way. It reverses on close, but then re-crooks when it hits the ground.

Also check the tension on your cables. If one is tighter than the other, it will pull the door to one side.

The most general reason for this condition is a spring torque variance. One side of the door has a bit more resistance than the other creating the skewed operation. The other is track misalignment- vibration loosens nuts and bolts allowing braces/tracks to move.

Just fixed this on mine. Added a 3/8" washer to the stem of the roller and it scooted it over enough that it doesn't hang anymore.

I am having exactly the same issue. One side of the door is too close to the tracks and thus the roller is hitting the bolts holding the side tracks. As a result, the door does not close as the opener feels something is holding it. Here is a video displaying the issue.

I see that the top part of the round carriage bolts are worn out. This is probably due to the old rollers hitting/rolling over these bolts. I am planning on replacing the bolts with flathead ones, but I would like to know why this is happening. The torsion spring and safety cables were adjusted and replaced, respectively, maybe 4-5 years ago. I see that some of you proposed to use some sort of spacers, which I did not understand. Where did you install these spacers (and washers)? Thanks in advance.
