I am wanting to have 2 single garage doors that are 8' foot tall but the width I am undecided. What width would you suggest in order to accomodate a full size truck? The garage width would be 24' min. but most likely 26'

I would have one of them to be at least 10' wide for the truck. I think two 10's will work on a 26" garage.

Measure your truck. My full size truck fits easily through a 9' door, but some trucks have icky mirrors that make them too wide for a 9' door.

Go with at least 1 ten foot wide a fullsize truck goes thru with no stress a nine can be a tight squeeze.

Go with 10' I have 9' doors. My co-worker had a temp assignment an I keep his truck in my garage. He did not want to leave it at his apartment for 3 months. Anyway, we had to fold the mirrors in so it could come in. It was a GMC 2500, ext cab. It is friggin huge and made my CJ and Highlander feel inadequate.

From the left wall to the left door 24"
From the left door to the center 34"
From the Center door to the Right door 30"
From the Right door to the wall 60" this is the bay were the truck was parked.

The doors are "centered" because the original design was a 2-car garage with a single door. My grumpy, old neighbor came up when were stacking it the house out. We showed him the plans. He told me to rotate the garage 90 degrees, so people could not see my sh** from the street and make it bigger. It was very good advice!

Have fun

Well if it is only 26' wide two 10' doors leaves you only 6'. If that 26' wide is outside measurement then your framing if 2x6 takes up almost a foot. My thoughts are most two car garages are too small it is nice to have 4-6 feet on the wall side gives you some storage and easy opening of the door, same for center 4' so you don't get door dings. So in the 28 to 32' width wise is nice. I have a dually it fits in a 9' door but you need to be paying attention.
Good luck

Don't mean to be sarcastic here, but why not just put in a single 20ft wide door? You would save money and time.

Worst case I think you could even sneak in an extra foot and go for 10 x 8's or 11 x 8's if you are craving extra space...

I considered a single 18x8 but even that is pretty large to begin with and where the garage would be built I want to have some privacy from people traveling up the road, thus wanting go with the 2 door style.

I can't go wider on the garage so I am stuck trying to figure out what will be best and still leave usable room on the sides :dunno:

There's at least one person here who has 2 doors that have a removable post in between. Kind of a compromise in that it allows you to only open one or open both, remove the center post, and have a nice wide door. Also solves the problem of needing some minimum space between the doors. Of course I'm sure these type of doors are expensive, and you need to size the header based on the entire door span, but worth a thought.

Don’t forget you are going to need some space to the left of each truck to open the door and get out.
26 is going to be a tight fit.

You need at least a foot from the outside of the building to the edge of the door for framing.
And at least a foot in between for framing.
So you 26 becomes 23 right away.

Two 10 footers means three feet to spare.
I would divide the 3 feet evenly.
2-10-2-10-2

You can do it.
Tons of people put two trucks through a 16 foot door every day.
But you can’t put much along that right wall.

Just as a point of reference…..
Most lanes are 10 feet wide.
On the Interstate they are 12.
And most states have an 8 foot max truck width.

I put my previous truck ('97 Sierra) through an 8' wide door a couple times. Had to fold at least one mirror.

Then I put a ladder rack on it which made it about 1" too high to go through a 7' door. Brought home a load of plywood and was backing up to the door and thought "maybe this door is a little higher than the other one I have plenty of room to get under the jamb. Proceeded to unload the truck and heard a scraping noise as I pulled out. Oops. Wasn't too bad, but I wasn't thrilled with myself for scraping the fairly new PVC trim.

I'm putting an 18x8 and a 10x8 (or maybe 9) on the barn/garage I'm currently building.

20ft wide door here is the best option - eliminating the middle support frame. It would also allow 3 ft on each side for side room. Even an 18ft wide door gets good coverage and its cheaper if you are having someone else install the doors.

If you have to two doors:
Minimum width would be 9ft. You definitely DO NOT want to go less than that wide. Large trucks with mirrors are a pain trying to get in and out of the garage. You may be best served with 9ft doors since that is the standard single car door size...

3ft| 9w door | 2ft | 9w door| 3ft| = 26 ft

my old house had a single door. my new house has two with the no-man's land between the cars. really hate it. i'd rather have that space on the sides of the garage instead of between the doors. just my two cents.

I have two 9x8 doors on my garage and the house garage. Any thing smaller than, my truck would fit through as the mirrors would hit the sides.
