I am planning my 50x36 shop build and need some opinions on garage door spacing. I am planning on three garage doors. Two 12x12 doors and one 10x12 door. I was planning on 3 feet between each door. I am installing a twin post hoist in one of the 12x12 doors. I don't want to waste space. Is three feet to much?

I'd suggest you hold off for your engineer's opinion. With those large openings on the long wall, you may need some serious beams and bracing above and between the doors for the structure to take wind loads. Having wider spacing may be able to save you some cost on the structure.

Are you building conventional or pole building? I'm assumong that your putting 36' of door in a 50' wall, what do intend to do behind the last undoored section? In my build I went with only 2 doors because the undoored space is shop area that is not for automotive work. Your usage will somewhat define door placement and if you intend to have storage against the walls and or between the 'bays'. With doors that big are we to assume that your working on trucks or other bigger rigs?

I went 30" between doors, and it wound up being less than I expected. Glad the sales guy suggested it. 12x12 doors, so they make it look even smaller.

Mine are 3.5 with 3 12x12. It wastes some space, but it is amazing to work in! Not tripping over stuff in next bay an you can shuffle things to that dead spot for a bit if needed

I'm planning on 4' betwee doors on my build. 2 14x14 doors on a 40' wall. 4' between walls and doors, 4' between doors. I hate having to be super careful opening doors, moving stuff, etc by not having enough space. If it turns out to be too much, I can put shelving in the middle, and have extra storage.

30 inches between doors sounds ok. Do you have any out side pictures?

Forgive the junk. They had just finished. Left side isn't cut out much that's 18" from the side.
