Has anyone ever thought about putting a second door on there overhead door openings for the winter months. I have a 12x12 and a 10x10 facing the west and the cold wind is hard to stop even with seals on my doors. A sliding door won't work on this building so I was thinking about some hinged by folding doors. Just looking for ideas at this point. Thanks.

I've screwed my OH door to the frame a couple of times to reduce the gap and thus the cold infiltration. I may try aluminumized duct tape this year. BTW, I currently have a 7 X 10 on the north side and after the mod it will be 10 X 10.

I stuff foam strips along the door when not in use but, the problem is I open one of the doors at least every couple days working on people's cars so I need something quicker.

I built an inner door with a 2x4 frame and covered with OSB. I insulated the space between the 2x4s and used L brackets to attached the inner door to the existing garage door frame. I added some foam strips at the top and bottom of this "inner door" to seal those areas. We had a small one car garage attached to the house that we used as an indoor playground for the kids. The OSB faced into the garage and I painted it, added chalk and dry erase boards and some game panels. With a good rug on the floor and a small heater it was a very warm area for the kids to play and often nap.
Regard,
John

I have exterior doors on my "long list", the current plan is to make a transom in 2 pieces that are hinged like barn doors for the top 2 feet, then make a pair of swinging 8' barn doors. I was thinking building the doors around 2" high R foam, and weather strip like a real exterior door.

It will be in front of my metal insulated door that I will only use in the winter.

I looked at the Green hinges but, the cost to do my 9 heated area doors will buy enough propane to last the rest of my life!
