Garage door: Swing-Out or Overhead?

I'm going to replace the door on my shop by taking the existing sliders and building swing out doors from them. After taking a good look at the set up I realized that swing outs wouldn't clear the overhang from the roof. It looks like there's about an inch and a half of extra clearance that will be needed.

Maybe I could trim or replace the board to provide the extra clearance that I need for swing out doors, or I could just get an overhead door and be done with it. I was hoping to do the swing out so that I would have overhead clearance for future needs, (Maybe a lift?), but an overhead door would be fast, simple, and get the job done. I'm replacing the sliders because they don't seal and they don't provide much security.

I'm concerned about overhead clearance, but I don't have any solid reasons why I'm concerned except that I have it now and don't necessarily want to lose it :) I work with the door open all summer long... Anyone have thoughts about which style of door they have and\or which style of door they wish they had?

 #1 If it is just a facia board - then no harm in triming that. If we are talking structure, then have a carpenter take a look. #2 On our new garage/workshop that is under construction we are going with swing out doors. The 2 doors I am going to build are each roughly 4 1/2 feet wide & 8 feet tall. #3To get them to stay open you mount a drop rod on each door & then when at the open spot - you sink a hole in the ground & place a pipe in the hole so that the drop rod has a place to go. That is what we have on our barn and every so often you will need to clean the hole out. #4 Just my 2 cents worth this evening - good luck!
