hi guys,

Im looking for some advice on the following. in the next couple of weeks i will be pouring an 8m x 3m ramp/pad into the workshop, to join up to the garage floor photo'd below. i have taken away the top footing block, for the new concrete to meet the floor.

Naturally at the moment the rain is coming under the door, due to the fact that the floor is not sloped, and its still a rough finish so there is uneven air gaps here and there which will be diamond ground out with the rest of the floor.

my question is, how should i finish/prepare thatb visible 2 inches of concrete floor before pouring the entry ramp? should i diamond grind a sloped incline into it before pouring the new slab? should i just grind it flat and use a threshold seal?

any advice greatfully recieved!

Make sure they pin one slab to the other. If you don't, the new concrete will settle some and drop.

saw cut right where the door stops and get rid of the 2 inches of floor, or just clean up the edge i already have?

Either. You just want a clean straight edge or it will look bad.

I wouldnt worry personally about tying the two pads together. I usually only see that when its a structure going from pad to pad and and pads were done in seperate pours. As long as its a good compacted surface it shouldnt move to much. I would personally pour right to old slab and just put a normal edge joint. Most of those expansion products end up rotting away and then your left with a 1/2 gap you have to maintain.

Don't ask.
i was going to leave them separate for expansion, and sikaflex seal the joint??

I would have started the slope a few inches inside the door. Since you are planning on grinding it could be an option.
As far as pinning the slab if it is thick enough drill holes for rebar 6-8" deep about every foot. Put expansion joint between the slabs. Then insert 12-18" rebar pegs though the expansion joint into the holes (do not glue them).
