Garage door universal replacement cables install properly

Hi!

Sorry if this has been answered before. Search returns so many false positives.

I'm trying to replace old garage door cables with new ones and I got these fro homedepot: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-12-ft-Garage-Door-Extension-Cables-2-Pack-5020A30/202088363

The problem is that the loop at the end is too big compared to my old cable. See attached screenshot.

Does it matter? The bigger one will come off easily if not tightened, no?

Thanks in advance!

There is always tension on the cable when installed correctly.

Both ends are looped. I haven't tried it but I'm not sure if I can put proper tension via "S" hooks (my door is 7 ft and the cable is 12 ft).

Extension spring cables are seldom double loop. Most go through a three hole fixture for tightening. Yes they could jump off if you lose tension on the cable. You may be able to tighten the loop with pliers and then a couple of good zip ties to hold it tight to the pin. Or return and try someplace else.

This one is double looped. I pinched them a bit with pliers and that made installing them easier (now they don't fall off while I'm looping them around).

I wonder if I should cut off the excess cable (around 1 ft), which would also get rid of the loop at the other end; and then use the 3 hole fixture to tighten and keep them in place.

Right now, I have just wound up the excess but it doesn't help. The pulleys sagged a bit after I operated the door (it's not like they keep sagging but I don't know if I should try tightening them a bit more or cut the loop and try the 3 hole fixture to secure them in place).

Ok so here's what I did:

- Pinched the loops to make it tighter
- Cut off excess (about 1 ft) on one end and used the 3 hole fixture to tighten and secure with proper tension. This also cuts off the loop at the other end but you don't need it anyway.

Thanks everyone for your help!
