first off hello everyone, i am the new guy here looking foward to learning and sharing,,, i had a garage door give to me and i am wanting to install it on my pole barn. The door is 8X7 old school door but a good one how willl i go about the install will the hole i cut need to be the same size as the door or smaller or larger..

However the correct answer should be that you want the finished opening to be the same size or slightly smaller than the door, so the rough opening will depend on what you are putting on the sides of the opening and underneath the header.

Role ups you go the same size as door. You could getaway with slightly larger depending on your trim selection.

sorry guys for the late reply, what i ment by old school was that a 73 yr old man gave it to me off him atatched garage, its wood and 3rd row up is 4 pains of glass.. lol sorry for the comfusion..

pictures are always going to get you better results. Maybe a shot of the door and the porposed install location showing the framing inside and the sheathing outside
