Hi everyone, Im currently fixing up my detached 2.5 car garage. Im installing a modine 45btu furnace, insulating and drywalling. We are currently looking for a new garage door, 16 x 7, and going with a 2 inch insulated with 10 r value. We are also going with the window option that goes across the top, (sunburst) since we have driveway and see the door from the front.

My question is should i get the insulated glass or will the ordinary glass be good enough. One company is telling me to stay away from the insulated glass because i do not need it and it tends to sweat in winter. They want an extra 250 for insulated glass . Another company say to get the insulated glass and that its only a 100 upgrade. To me it only makes sense to go with insulated glass since im getting an insulated door. Any thought about this? Anyone else have widows across door with or without insulation? Thanks.

I have more questions than answers.
Welcome Steve.

It would help if you put where your from in your header. State will be enough.

With that said, I've install doors every week with double pane windows and even have them in my own garage doors. I have never had any sweat.. Good quality double pane should do that as long as the seal is good. Do you have double pane in your home? do they sweat?

Watch out for R value in garage doors. Go by thickness of insulation and type to come up with R value.

I agree that dual paned glass should not sweat. If it does, it becomes a warrantable issue unless sweating is caused by homeowner damage.
I recently had R18 insulated (No windows) Clopay doors installed. They are awesome in keeping the radiating heat from the AZ summer sun at bay.
I would go for the dual paned glass if I were to go with an insulated door. It just makes sense.

Sorry, from chicago il

Steve, for future reference, you can add that to your profile by clicking on the User CP in the black band near the top of the page. Under the "Your Profile" section click the "Edit your details" then go the bottom of that page to Addtional Information.

For a $100 upgrade, I'd spend the money as it will pay for itself over the years.
