I'm getting ready to purchase some garage doors for my garage. I've got 3- 10x8 doors and 1- 14x8 door.

I've done some research online at some of the different door companies. I want a highly insulated door, but with a couple of windows (I know, the windows kill the R-value...)

I like the style and the look of the Amarr Fimbel Designers choice door, with the bead board and the Long Panel Thames window. I attached a picture of the style.

I've also looked at some of the Clopay doors.....

I've asked some local door companies to quote me some prices. They have also recommended Haas, CHI and Garaga doors. I also got a quote through Home Depot for Clopay doors, Doors-online for Amarr and Lowes for Reliabilt doors. I'm waiting on a call back from Sears....I like their Steel Carriage House 5000 series door.

I'll probably go with the 3280 opener.

What has been your experience and any recommendations? Any brand over the others that you guys like?

I'm planning to do the install myself...which should be interesting....... Any tips for the install would be great.

I've had Clopay doors in my last two shops, and I have been very happy with both sets. I would recommend trying to find a local installer rather than going through the Home Depot. I suspect it will be cheaper and you will be happier with the service if you get rid of a middleman.

I had a Echo ridge XL garage door installed for my garage and it looks great. I have also seen one that you have uploaded in attached thumbnails when i went to see the garage door. It is exactly similar. If you are looking that door type, then you can check out the company i used. A bit expensive but good quality.
Thanks!

I put Wayne-Daltons on the house garage. When it came time for new doors on my garage, W-D got the nod again.

They have some different levels of insulated doors.

I went with Clopay, Coachman about 2.5 years ago nice door holding up well. The Amarr is fine but seemed cheaper construction and didn't have the look I was after. Wayne Dalton also good door. Martin is a nice door really wanted them, but about $4000 for one 9x7 door where my Clopay was about $4500 for two 9x7's. I ordered through Home Depot took about 4-6 weeks to get here. A local garage door company installed them, I looked at doing it myself but would have only saved $200 total not worth it to me.

The Sears Steel Carriage House door is an Amarr door. Amarr is made in Lawrence, KS and is a nice product. I designed their call center a few years ago. Their operation is top notch and their doors were always high quality.

I worked there for 3 years. I'll say that if I ever have to replace my doors, I'll be using Amarr if for no other reason I know how they are tested, how they are built, and who builds them. I'll have no unknowns if you will. I still have many friends that work there.

Hass got my door business and I'm very happy with them. I had two 10x10's and a 14x14 I went with the 3'' thick with like a R26.

Installed 2 10Wx8H Clopays at the house 11 years and they have been great, aluminum, insulated, with windows similar to you pic. When the new garage was done, I used 3 Clopay doors (10x10) there as well but went with an insulated, vinyl door that have been surprising effective.

I'll be installing my third WD door (different garages) this weekend. They're great, but don't get their stupid TorqueMaster torsion bar if you can help it. Harder to work on and it can't take a jackshaft opener.

I went with a Wayne Dalton Commericial11x18.

The installer I hired said it was the first W/D door he'd ever done, and that he thought Wayne Daltons were **** because they were a box store brand, but was impressed with mine.

He said the track and hardware was heavier than his companies commericial door.

I had Overhead Door Co doors in ohio and they have served well for35 yrs. Never even readjusted anything. There is a 14 x 16h , a9 x 8 h vertical lift,and a 10 x 12h vertical lift.

In the new shop I used Hass and there is only one 16 x 13h .Because it is a special size my choice of suppliers was limited ,thats why I ended up with Hass. Its been a problem since day one. It hangs up in the tracks so when it is closeing I have to pull it down to "help" the opener. They have done the whole bit, springs, track realignment and all that. Its good for a month and then same old ****. It sags across the tracks and the bottom panel is buckeled in about 2" now with a visible crease. The top panel is starting to buckle, the crease is visible on the outside and gets worse with use. It wasnt cheap at around $3000 just for the door, its the foam filled comercial r-21 unit. When the wind blows it in I will get a real door, probably from Overhead Door.

I have a pair of Haas doors in white, 18X8 and 9x8. About 5 years old, and I'm very pleased with them so far. http://www.haasdoor.com/

My local retailer, Pioneer Door, carries them. One of the things I liked most was that their foam insulation is sprayed in, filling all of the internal gaps. Everything else I was looking at used foam boards inside, which left large gaps and spaces uninsulated.

I have a Clopay 16 x 8 with windows in it and could not be happier. It's their steel/insulation/steel door with the thermal windows in it. They claim R17, which is better than what I can put in the walls. Even if they are off by 10% on the R value, that is still pretty impressive with windows in it. See post 45 here:

Matter of fact, I was so happy with it, I bought a near identical one for my attached garage. MAJOR improvement on the house warmth.
