I've seen double garage doors ( roll-up type) fitted side by side with the adjacent track (centre) removeable. So you can use one door for vehicle access or roll them both up,remove the centre track and have a double door opening to move in the bigger projects. Does anyone know of a panel lift door that does the same ?

Had a friend that had that in his airplane hanger. It was just 2 garage doors with a double track in the center. The track was hinged at the top and had a hand winch with a cable that raised it to the top of the doors when open to remove the plane. There was a latch at the bottom to secure it to the concrete floor when the doors are closed.

Yes, we have one (two?) at our shop. The center post is hinged at the header and swings up with the help of a winch. The vertical tracks are longer than normal so that the top of the vertical is even with or just above the header. We have done several of these for small hangers, and have manufactured several ourselves for larger jobs where the door manufacturers don't want to bother with it. Last year we did two hangers, the larger of the two had three doors with two swing up posts for a total opening width of 90 feet. The two outer doors were 20' high and the center door was 24' high. Pretty interesting project.

Wayne-Dalton will make you a pair of doors with a swing-up post, ready to install. If you are feeling industrious and want to make it yourself, go for it and good luck.

Thanks guys, That's about all I need to know...the dealers don't want to know, I'll have to do it myself and the centre track hinges from above. I will have a go at building a removeable track for a pair of panel lift doors. The bonus with panel lift is that the drive is up above and away from the door where the roller doors have the drive attached to the end of the roll. too easy.
