$1820 for all that...was thinking if you get two sets you have a nice amount of cabinets. These would be in addition to all the normal tool chests/rolling cabinets. So $3640 for close to $5k in separate cabinets, not bad. One of the back walls of the shop is 43ft long, and there are a couple other spots where the other cabinets can be used. Seems like a very affordable shop setup that can carry into other parts of the building.

But how is their quality?

Anyone have personal experience? Seems like a great deal!

TIA

I wonder what brand those cabs are? I guess the main thing would be whats the construction of the cabinets. Are the doors/sides/etc all particleboard? Whats the rating on the drawer slides (lbs) and such. They look nice but if you do any sort of heavy useage I could see busting them up pretty quick if they aren't solidly made. The other consideration is if your going to "work" from the top of that bench remember its pretty narrow and looks to be a lightweight material. Plop a vice on it and the first time you are pounding on something it'll probably bust the top to bits. Not to mention the lack of depth will leave you cussing.

I don't have any first hand experience.. just things to consider in my book.

All of our online cabinets consist of thermofused PVC over MDF cabinet construction.

EEK!! They sound pretty whimpy to me.. for the price you'd do just as well to go the local home depot/lowes and buy some of their premade kitchen cabs and some smooth front doors. I know they sell pulls like that too. You could probably put together the entire set for less than they have it listed for. Just a thought. Again.. if your gonna be "working" on the stuff spend some $$ and get some nice quality cabs that will hold up. If your just tossing stuff in it and making your garage pretty you'll probably be ok though.

I just had estimate with premier garage and their cabinet are lifetime warranty and the shelves can hold 400 lns. They were all 3/4" construction. With the floor in my 3 stall gage it was 11600.0 cdn . I looked at some at home depot , etc and some were falling apart on the displays. So igues you get what you pay for.

I'm looking into options for chests, cabinets and the like too. The units in that photo have very, very, few drawers and from what I've been able to detemine drawers are what you end up paying the big bucks for.

I've seen that too. Saw one that the cabinet had collapsed and the drawers wouldn't open. It was the display model.

I've been keeping my eyes open for a smoking deal on some vintage metal kitchen cabinets that could be repainted and used. I've seen deals where you could buy enough to do a whole garage for a couple of hundred dollars.

Of course, the were PINK!

i believe the cabinets in the picture are from walmart...they started carrying some semi-decent stuff like that, but like it was said, they have VERY few cabinets

They are now carried by Sears at a lower price.

Thanks for the responses. It seems they are just another china made cheap shelving unit:

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/prod...subcat=Garage+Organization&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes

The comparable setup from Vault/Lista is about $20-25k, and while I have used Listas and "milspec clean room" hardware in past engineering contract jobs, they are not for everyone (I've also been on the design side of these products, there is a reason they cost a lot haha). For the wear and tear they can see, even lista's break down.

We're going to see if those above "ulti garage" units are in the store to check out. If i'm lucky and they have some on display I'll update the thread. But even if its just for short term, for under $3k for a 20 peice set, it might be worth the short term investment until a custom configuration can be made.

Also, as for the table top, thats an easy part to make myself. I'm sure its weak, but I can always weld up an extra ******** top and finish it to match :)

That table top will not be used for any ******** use also by the way. All machinery and tools have thier own stands. That cabinet system would only be used for assembly of small parts, etc...its definitely not upto the task of anything that requires extra muscle.... Thats what the welding table is for. I'll be building a fairly beefy welding table, and thats where the big Vise will be mounted ;)

Yep, they have them at sears now, I got mine from Costco for a real cheap price (the 4 pieces on the left for $600). They fit my needs, storage of stuff, the tools etc go in the tool chest. The hardware is nice and they are decent build quality for the price.

Keep watching! I picked up 18 Geneva 1950's steel kitchen cabinets for $300 locally. Very heavy guage, very sturdy. The construction and material put new modern, garage cabinets to shame. The lot included a lower and upper corner cabinet with a built in 3 tier steel lazy susan. They are in perfect shape.

I have these cabinets. I have the base drawer, base door, the tall and 3 wall hanging cabinets. I've had them for about a week so can't attest to longevity, but overall I really like them. The cabinets are very heavy and went together very easily. In the 6 units I assembled, I had one that had a messed up handle (the thread just wouldn't hold). I called the 800 number that is included in every box on Wednesday and the new handle showed up on Friday, so I was pleased with their customer service.
I'll take some pics (hopefully tonight) and post.

The build quality seems good for the $, but if you can find some vintage steel cabinets, those will be the best.

As stated above, they are MDF with a laminate cover. Quite heavy and feel solid once you put the extra support tabs in. If you mounted them to the wall they'd be very stout.

If you can go to a Sears to check them out, that'd be the best thing to do, nothing like seeing/touching them to see if they'll meet your needs. They'll meet mine, since I'll have an old government issue steel desk to do my pounding etc on (now that's a heavy sucker, and I got it for $15 ;) )

That I have, thanks for noticing ;)

Now I get to start on the fun part, banners, hanging my Hot Wheels collection, artwork. Then maybe it will be warm enough to use it!

Thanks guys.

We're currently looking at some slightly higher end cabinets, but for the price, 20 cabinets under 3k, not sure if that can be beat...even if its just temp.

Vault Designer Series is a pretty nice, and while its more expensive, it looks pretty amazing.

Here's the result of some quick research I just did. This is for the 10 piece set.

Online:
http://www.carguygarage.com/tenpigaca.html
$1849.99 + $186 shipping = $2035.99

same set at Sears
http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/prod...subcat=Garage+Organization&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes
$1109.92 no shipping-pick up at store

Hmmmmmmm.....
Think I'll be checking them out at Sears tomorrow.

Double check the math on that Sears set, they show the same picture but they only give you 8 pieces.

so thats another $230 and $90.

So $1429, no shipping. Still a better deal.

I checked them out yesterday and for what I do in my garage, they seem like they would be fine. I'll probably pick the 10 up from sears come Springtime.

I have these also. I bought 2 from Costco and the rest from Sears. I am happy with the product. These will not be confused with Lista but they are a step above the cabinets carried by the big box stores.

Just a quick update.

I went to Sears to check out the cabinets, other than some poor assembly by Sears, for under $3k to have 25 cabinets, they are not too bad.

The hinges are ok, the handles are ok, the material finish is actually pretty good, but the walls/shelves do have that "walmart" quality feel, however they use standard assembly fastening techniques which should allow for some heavy items to be stored.

I liked the varying sizes and "shapes" of the cabinets.

The Plastic top is not bad, its very hard, but it would be nice to put a slab of steel on half of it to mount stuff to.

They are pretty deep cabinets too, and should go well with the other craftsman/gladiator type cabinets.

Plus since they can all be bought individually, we will be able to custom design a wall unit to cover the large areas.

For the time being, I think those cabinets might be the route we take, but we'll modify them most likely to suit each of thier applications :)

Doesn't look like anything out there can beat it for the price, or even twice the price (in terms of quantity and quality).
