I am about to retire and am looking for something to fill my time for a few months until I do something part time or nothing at all. So I am not going to move and want some more room in the garage, which leads to bumping out the back. The size I think wil be 8'x20'and I may in the future get a mill and lathe. So for starters, how deep of a footer? Oh yeah, I am in The burbs of Cincinnati (Mason). I've been on here for along time an now is my time for something.

You probably need to check with your local building inspector. The footing size can vary by the type of construction and soil conditions. Hope you enjoy retirement!

Is it an attached garage?
If not you may not need a footer if the existing garage is on a slab.
