Slatwall is up, steel ceiling is in, just a little wiring and finish work to do.
It might be hard to see in this picture, but 1/3 of our attached garage was sheet rocked, mudded, taped, sanded, and nicely sprayed; closest to the house, obviously to meet code. The other 2/3's was open stud walls and open roof trusses. A previous owner put friction fit, bat insulation in the walls and between the bottom cords of the trusses. Then he/she/it put poly on the studs and chicken wire (I can't make this stuff up!) on the trusses to hold the insulation up!
It was ugly, dark, and a mess. The poly had been torn a few times by the time we got here, and I tore it some more. There was only the 40w light on the garage door opener and a 75 or 100w max on a ceiling light with a pull chain. Barely enough to work on the race car.
So I put white slatwall on the walls ceiling to floor (cost about $475) and white pole building steel siding on the ceiling (cost about $390); if I add in something for odds and ends I'm probably at about $900. Neighor who is contractor bid $1,500 for nicely finished drywall on walls and ceiling.
Had I done dry wall, I would not have had anything to hang stuff from and I would have worried about hitting with race car stuff.
Pics 2, 3, and 4 show the slatwall before the ceiling went in. Last pick shows the finished ceiling and the race car. Getting ready to head to Autobahn Country Club near Joliet (IL) for Midwestern Council road racing on Sunday.
