Garage Fire

Just started to watch the Bears beat the Giants tonight and into the game just a minute or two (right after the interception) we start seeing firetrucks , ambalances, and po-leese cars flying down the street. Then the cable goes out.
Its dark outside ..7:30pm local time..and we can see the reflections of all the mars lights just a couple blocks over.
I walk on over (along with a couple dozen other nosy neighbors) and turns out a garage was lit up like a roman candle. Kind of ironic, because rumor has it there were ACTUAL roman candles and all kinds of other fireworks stored inside. Could hear them going off as the flames burned higher.
One law enforcement officer said it was majorly engulfed by the time any first responders got there. From a distance I was able to see a utility pole on fire.
They had it contained by 8:15p and vehicles were starting to leave.

As I was starting for home a car pulled up and asked me what's going on. I told him it was a garage fire, on Campbell Ave, about 3 house down. His eyes get real wide and he says "MY GARAGE IS ON FIRE ?!?!"
Office asked him what his address was, he said 1310, the office says that was the reported address. Then he got on his radio to confirm and they come back with 1314, so the guy thinks he's okay. The sucky part is those two addresses are next to each other, and the garages were next to each other, and the flames jumped from 1314 to 1310, so it got him anyway.

If you want to check it on Google Maps its 1314 Campbell, Wheaton, IL

That *****. The second victim's insurance should cover the damage, but the original one, if fireworks are involved, will lose his insurance entirely and be liable for the damage to his neighbor's garage too.

Scott,

Thanks for the update!

Around here, when a garage goes up, so does the house. Those folks are soooooo fortunate that they didn't loose the house as well! The good news was no one was injured!

Sorry to hear about your tragic loss, as both fire and tornado's are so devastating..... Glad everyone made it out OK!

As for the reporting, it must have been a slow day, with not much happening !!

Amazing what will make news in some locations..

My house burnt to the ground earlier this year with my entire family getting out with literally seconds to survive the smoke and barely a peep in the paper..

Sorry to hear that, glad everybody got out safe. I hope you had enough insurance and they are co-operating with a great rebuild.

Local paper here doesn't cover **** for us either. They called one night wanting to know if we had something and I rattled off a few small calls. His reply was unless it's a big fire or somebody dies, we don't want it. Needless to say, they don't get anything from us now.

Thats too bad. Another reason to build away from cookie cutter homes. Your house can burn down due to a irresponsible or carless neighbor, and no CCR! Insurance companies are in business to make money. Hope it works out for that innocent guy living next to that idiot.
