Garage Floor Assessment: Where to Start?

Hi everyone,

I’m in the process of remodeling my garage. The plan is for it to be a nice place to park the car and do minor repairs and occasionally some small painting.

The floor is in good shape aside from the attached images, where the previous owner parked his truck over winter and slid metal work benches around.

My main concern is the larger areas of salt damage, which I’ve power washed and cleaned, but now want to level out/smooth. I also am dealing with the previous owners paint and it is not coming off at all, even with a power washer.

So, where do I start? I read about the Xtreme Set 100 but I’m afraid I have too large of an area to fill out. I am thinking about grinding the floor but again, not sure if that’s where I should start or not.

I’d love anyone’s input/opinions!

OKAY.

So the garage floor has been ground down, rented from Sunbelt and it turned out pretty damn good. There's a few spots that aren't perfect but this garage is going to be used and abused so I'm not too concerned.

At this point I'm ready to go to coatings. I was interested in Rust Bullet but I'm reading that I may need a primer to put on the floor first?

My floor is going to get scratched and scuffed, used and spills, so I don't want to do an epoxy and flake because it's not worth it in my opinion. I just want a uniform look that can be touched up if need be or another coat thrown on down the road.

Once you have done the grinding you will want to repair the floor first. Then I would do three coat Poly system

Hi, take a look at our SPGX one part polyurea which is an easy to apply and very, very durable garage coating. I can be applied as a single coat with no primer.
