New here...first post. My question: I have a 35 year old garage floor that has pretty severe pitting where the cars park. I recently hung drywall in the garage, now I want the floor to look as nice as the walls and ceiling. I need advice on how to repair the concrete so that I can do either tile or epoxy paint over the top of the repair. I want the repair to be robust, and be able to hold up to salt in the winter. Any ideas? Thanks

I would get a self leveling epoxy... something that is thick enough, high mil, in order to fill all the voids and give you a nice smooth finish.

You could also grind down the surface, but this would only be if the surface was not greatly damaged.

Any shots of the floor? To me pitting is minor, but maybe your floor is worse than I'm picturing.

Buy some automotive body filler, level it off and apply your covering of choice. Or else have an inch of new concrete poured.

Hello, we have bought a house which has a basement. The problem we are having now is that the floor in the living room is feeling very weak and is directly above the basement....what can we do to remedy the problem? we have put a couple of support beams to try to hold or give it support but I think we are going to have to put in a whole new floor....does anyone know what that might involve? Thank you so much.

Welcome from Boston, Kimmey.

I can't answer your question, but I would suggest that you start your own thread with your question. It's not really related to the previous postings.

What about adding lally columns? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lally_column

You'll probably get some answers, but I wonder if your question is really appropriate for this forum... since it doesn't have anything to do with garages. Maybe it would be better to post in the off-topic forum here?

I use a polyaspartic quick patch, wet the area i want to patch and mix in some 80 grit silica sand to make a mortar. It is dry in 15 minutes, than i diamond grind smooth. Stuff is amazing, i have filled in one foot sections of mission curbing with the stuff in 30 minutes, patched 6x6 foot holes 3 inches deep. Thats what i would do, but if your going to use some cheap epoxy, it wont stick to the patch.
