We have been getting a lot of inquiries lately about repairing garage floors and resurfacing so we are starting a new string.
Often customers think that an epoxy will 'fix' a floor which they generally won't. Repairs need to be done prior to coating, and then the floor coated for protection. Not unlike auto body repair, the finest paint and most talented painter won't fix an improperly prepped surface.
When a floor is severely degraded, resurfacing with a self leveler is recommended. It's faster, easier, and much less time consuming.
Armorpoxy has recently been appointed the NYC area master distributor for Laticrete Drytek resurfacers. We have been factory trained, and our Prep-Crete Division has installed over 700,000 square feet of this in NYC buildings over the past year.
We are now buying this product by the truckload and can sell it Nationwide. Cost of these commercial grade esurfacers alone runs about $2.00-$3.00 pers sq ft depending on thickness applied. It's heavy too so shipping can add some not insignificant costs unless you get something locally. Coverage is low by design with a 50 lb bag covering only 11.2 sq ft/bag @ 1/2" thickness so for a 450 square foot garage @ 1/2" pour you would need 40 bags, or 2,000 lbs of material.
See project below which was a severely pitted and degraded one-car garage floor with steps from prep, priming with bonding primer, pour of 1/2" leveler, and final result. Total time to do this was about 3 hours. Grinding would take days if at all possible.
