Hi all - new to the forum and new to this project so would appreciate some insight from the pros.
Have a 2-car garage that has a relatively fresh, clean concrete slab (12-months old, no oil, contaminants, coating, just raw).
I’m looking for the best DIY option for some sort of coating or paint without spending $1600+ on a professional epoxy job.
After a good amount of research, here’s what I’m seeing.
1. Use a HD consumer grade concrete paint such as the Behr Granite Grip product.
Pros: $60 for a gallon. Textured.
Cons: Probably won’t last, will chip and peel from tires, heat.
2. Use a HD consumer trade 1-part epoxy paint from Behr.
Pros: None
Cons: Reviews say it’s just garbage
3. Use a higher quality “paint” from RustBullet. Their DuraGrade Concrete line, they claim it’s a polyurethane (I think) and has excellent adhesion to conference, doesn’t require etching, etc.
Pros: Seems like a well reviewed high quality coating.
Cons: Higher end ($200 for the gallon and $200 for the clear coat).
4. Use a professional grade epoxy kit from epoxy-coat.com. Found about it on this forum. Seems like a commercial grade epoxy kit.
Cons: $1,000 so might as well go for a pro job which is a touch higher at $1,600.
5. Use an epoxy kit from RustOleum.
Cons: seems like garbage
My goal is to just make the garage look better, so ideally, after a power wash, degrease and extra dry concrete slab, I’d love to just paint the concrete with 2-layers of a high quality paint, add some flakes and call it a day.
Any suggestions on what to do / what not to do?
