Garage Forum "Automatically" Logging Me Off

Can anybody tell me what is going on here. I can log into the Forum, and about 75% of the time my session, even if I spend several hours browsing the threads, is swell. But then, every once in a while, I have a bad night where the Forum keeps logging me off.

I kind of think that I might be doing something to make it do that, but troubleshooting it is difficult because the first sign that I've been logged off is when I start seeing the advertisements, OR ( WORSE ) when I try to post a reply and find that I was logged off, so I need to log back in and then RETYPE the reply again. I don't type fast, so it is a PITA.

Thanks for the help,

What browser are you using? It is probably an issue with cookies and the "remember me" or password save settings. Usually if you hit reply and you are not logged in you can hit the back button to get back to your text, copy it, log in and then past. At least that saves from having to retype everything.

I've been having the same problem. I'm on an ipad with safari. I've never had a problem until the last couple weeks.

Same issue here. I just logged in, and not even 5 minutes later it logged me off. If im researching, i can easily have to log in 2-3 times each visit.

And yes, I ticked the Remember me box. Ive been doing it every time hoping not to get logged out. Makes no difference.

This issue also happens on my net book, my wifes laptop, and obviously here on my work console computer also.

I would clear your cookies in your browser. If they get corrupt then it causes all sorts of issues. Also doesn't hurt to clear your browser cache.

This has happened to me since I first logged in (several years ago). All 3 laptops and a workstation at work. I get about 5 minutes of browsing and then get booted.

As others have noted, it happens regardless of how I login, which OS I use (Win XP, Win 7 or Fedora), which browser I use (Exp, FF, Chrome) and clearing cookies does nothing to change this despicable behavior. I even tried staying in a Holiday Inn Express and it still happened.

I have not explored the issue, but I think it is either in the settings of the user control panel or in the site software. JMO.

Dave.

I've also seen Norton and McAfee (and possibly others) that are that all-in-one protection do weird things if you enable to browser protection.

I JUST POSTED A LENGTHY REPLY AND THE GD THING DID IT AGAIN. So as I just wrote.....

I have done all of the following:

1. Cleared my cookies,
2. Tried both Firefox and Explorer,
3. Logged off and back on, although the GD thing is pretty good at logging me off,
4. Tried both my laptop and my desktop. When one works, they both work, and when one doesn't work, neither work,
5. I always log off when I finish a session,
6. I have cleared by browser cache,
7. Once I type my reply and THEN discover that I've been logged off, there is NO way to retrieve my typed text. Believe me, I've tried. It means either retype it, or forget about it.

I joined in 10/2013, and experienced no problems until the middle of February. Now the problem is bad enough so that once I encounter it, I know that it will be a useless evening so I pack it in for a couple of days, after which things work better.

I've noticed that the moderators moved my original post to the "Questions & Suggestions" thread, is there any hope for an answer? It appears that I'm not the only one with this complaint, is there any support for this forum?

Unless everyone is reporting the same problem issues like this can be very hard to track down. Though *usually* it is client-side, either an issue with their browser, some add-on software, or even malware / viruses...

As a temporary "save your sanity" type thing, when you are done typing a long post, BEFORE you click to save it do the following... Press:

CTRL-A (It select all text you typed in the box)
CTLC-C (It will copy that selected text to your clipboard)

So if you get logged out, all you have to do is go back to the reply box and press CTRL-V and it will paste all that text you typed.

Yes I moved it.

You have been offered plenty of information so until we hit on the right answer we just keep trying.

Have you cleared your browsing history ? That may help you refresh the log on etc.

Does it to me all the time as well. Just randomly logs me out whenever it wants to. I also copy the text before I hit post so I don't lose it but it's really annoying. I too have tried clearing cookies and cache and checking remember me and what not but I just have to deal with it.

I don't care that you moved it, but was disappointed not to see an answer.

Yes, I cleared the browser history yesterday, and it worked great last evening, and then again for several hours during an afternoon session today, but it is back to the old tricks tonight.

Up to now, I've only been a member of one other forum, and never had any problems there, but joined a third one today, so I'll see how things work there. This new one, and the GJ appear REALLY similar, so I imagine both use the same software.

Thanks for the suggestion, I DO appreciate the help.

When I close out of the GJ, my login automatically drops. This started around a month or so ago.
I think it has something to do with an update to windows or my Norton package.
My work computer has stayed logged in for months if not years and is still fine. Only the home computer is having this issue.
