We are building a 2 car attached garage in CT. 36x42 with a second floor for storage. It has a 10" concrete footing, 8" wall, 3'10" elevation. A4" slab with wire mesh 6x6x10x10. 2 9' garage doors in front and back and a door in front and back. Are yard is basically flat with no trees or things to obstruct equipment. Not rocky. I was especting an estimate no more than 10K. Yet my husband hired a friend and was giving an estimate of 30k.

That's almost $20 sf. Seems high.

If you are in downtown New York that seems pretty cheap.
If you are in the Midwest in farm country that seems pretty high.
Kind of useless to ask unless you specify where you are.

I paid about 10K for my 30x60 slab a few years back. Prices have not gone up that much. I did do some of the site work myself (that was easy to do) and the finished slab was excellent!
I could make two guesses here. 1, your husbands friend knows you have money to spend and priced it accordingly. 2, your husband is bluffing you and pockets cash for future projects.
Of course I could be and might be wrong.
The slab size, 4" thick and 36'x42' comes out to less than 19 yards of concrete. I'd imagine concrete is around $100/yd so that cost is about $2 grand.
Maybe you should ask to see the friend's bid estimate.

That is exactly what i did and he did not have a written estimate or contract. At which i stated all work stops until i see a contract with what has been completed thus far with the cost and what is remaining with the cost. I was thinking after that i would need to have the estimate reviewed

I think that was a smart financial move.
No floating slab. Have a 3'10" outside concrete shell which was just backfilled and there will be a 4" reinforces slab. I really would like to know what the average cost should be in northeast CT. The estimate is really triple what I was expecting. Need to figure out how to get the work already completed and remaining work assessed. Price seems over the top

$30K for the whole building or just the foundation - Your original post seems to hint at the price being for the whole building and not just the foundation.

so there is a 3'8" perimeter wall already? If so is the wall on top of a footing? And your just poring the slab between the existing foundation?

A high bid. would be materials times 30% plus laybor. Say 5,000. on top of materials?
