hey guys, the garage fridge is giving me trouble. One day the water dispenser quit working. I replaced the filter today since it needs to be replaced anyway, but still no water.

the water gets to the filter, because I pulled it out and water was in it, but not coming out of the dispenser. Any ideas, tips or suggestions?

It does make a click and humming noise when i try to activate it.

I did some research and tried some things. I put a weedeater line from the dispenser and it made it all the way through to the back of the fridge.

I also unplugged the line that feeds water to the filter, and when I would click the button to dispense it would run the water through it the line. The water seems to stop at the filter...any ideas?

Water lines freeze in the door and in the bottom of the freezer, tank in refig bottom and also at the filter housing. To check to see where it is frozen, unhook the lines at the door hinge either the top or the bottom . On most of those the coupler has a ring of a different color than the coupler that you push toward the middle of the coupler to release the line then try the dispenser for just a second to see if water comes out. If you have water flow there then the line is frozen in the door. If no water then it may be frozen near the filter housing. They freeze there because there is too much cold air blowing from the freezer. If this is a recent GE model that is computer controlled then you might have a bad duct door in the air plenum at the top of the freezer. The air plenum comes complete with duct door, fan etc. Just have to troubleshoot to find the frozen location, unplug the refig and let it thaw out and then turn the temp up a couple of numbers so that things do not freeze. The less the refig door is opened the more the air stagnates and can even freeze the water tank behind the bins in the bottom of the refig. If the freezer is in a garage that is freezing itself then water is always going to freeze in door and all the other places I have mentioned.

I don't know if it makes a difference but it is a Kenmore french door fride. Freezer on bottom.

There is a solenoid that opens to allow water to feed to the ice maker. Perhaps it's not getting juice to open it or it is shot.

I changed out the gang of solenoid says mine was not making ice.....found out later it was ice in the line just as the tubing enters the freezer. Check YouTube.

Ours quits working once in a while too.

Every time it has quit, it was just froze up like others have stated.
We have two fridges, so I just take everything out of it and put in the other one and unplug the froze up one, and leave the doors open for a day to let it thaw out. Plug it back in and everything works fine again.

This is assuming it isn't below freezing in your garage.

This is what I was thinking I will do that today and let you all know how it goes.

So you just let it thaw out about 24 hours?

My son has his fridge inside the house. It also froze up inside the door. Just had a service tech out yesterday who told him to remove the flappers they have at the bottom of the waste drains. They have those to keep the bugs out, but they also keep water in that can ultimately freeze. Lucky for him I have my beer fridge at work that just got repaired. He can take it home and use it to transfer all of his food and let his personal fridge thaw for a day or two. Lucky for me he can bring it to my house afterwards.

I agree the likely problem is a frozen water line. The turn frig off and let thaw is the fix. The line probably froze because the low temps in the garage due to winter.

I concur on frozen waterline. I disconnected the icemaker in my beer...I mean garage fridge because of this very issue. Mine did not have a water dispenser so it was not a great loss and on the plus side it freed up freezer space for meat storage.
